How to make the most of our Dialogue time
Many patients say to me, I know you’re not my therapist! And while I am most certainly not, the idea that you can only delve in to certain topics with a talk therapist is a concept instilled in us by the western medical construct, which separates mind and body in spite of us all agreeing that there is an inextricable link between stress, emotions and dis-ease. So please do share what’s in your heart. Your major life experiences, traumas, joys, observations, yearnings and emotions related to yourself and also of the collective (individualism also being associated with the West) are all fair game material for our sessions. Unlike your therapist, we will utilize tools that transcend the mental level.
For beginners, the conversation tends to be more on the mundane and superficial side: perhaps a sharing a progress report or symptom, a new complaint or focus. There’s just not much to work with there, the conversation will naturally be more one dimensional. Over time, dialogue naturally evolves as patients evolve in their healing and self awareness journey. Consider thinking about your intention or focus before coming in. Answering the question ‘ what do I want for myself, want to work on ‘ OR ‘ how can I get out of my own way’ are useful prompts. Be deep. This is about you being curious.
The invitation is to return each visit for a more in depth and profound exploration. Again, western mentality has a very transactional vs therapeutic physician patient relationship. But working in a deeper and more vulnerable way brings many gifts. This is the arena where I love working. It’s such a missed opportunity to just think of our work together as limited by your symptom picture alone, to not see your role in the healing process as active and engaged.
Ultimately, what I want is for you to be living a more aligned, authentic and emotionally balanced life! Of course to heal your ills, heal your relationship to your ills and shift your outdated patterning, what I consider preventative medicine. Going from the narrow mindedness of symptoms, needles and needle sensations to drawing bigger and bigger circles and connecting the dots. You have more answers than you know when you expand your heart, get your head out of the way. Let us partner with you.
